Dr. Lonnie Smith

Performance Information

“He really seems to be up to something bigger than music, and older, and deeper. An hour and a quarter in his presence, and you start thinking about the nature of time, ancestors, the circulatory system.” – New York Times

He’s arguably the greatest living legend of the Hammond B-3 organ and an NEA Jazz Master, but don’t expect any resting on laurels when Dr. Lonnie Smith takes the stage. As JazzTimes wrote of the good doctor’s live album, All in My Mind, “With his prismatic swirls, dramatic gestures, tidal swells, and unforeseen detours, Smith delights in defining the young-at-heart aesthetic.”

Linger Longer: NEA Jazz Master and legendary impresario Todd Barkan (Keystone Korner, Yoshi’s Oakland, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola at Jazz at Lincoln Center) will lead a post-concert Q&A with Dr. Lonnie Smith immediately following the performance.
