Gospel Choir Auditions
The Washington Performing Arts gospel music program has inspired audiences and nurtured both aspiring and experienced vocalists for more than 25 years. Our Children of the Gospel Choir (COTG) has become a destination choir for local students to develop excellence in artistry and technique. Choir members from D.C., Maryland, and Virginia commit to participating in a year of choral training, intensive workshops, and a variety of performances on Washington Performing Arts’s main stage and through community events.
Our competitive audition process is now open for children in grades four through 12. Auditions consist of two rounds: a preliminary online screening and a secondary in person audition with COTG faculty via the Zoom videoconferencing platform. Learn more and submit audition videos on our website.
Welcoming Rudy Burwell as Incoming Board Chair
President and Founder of Encompass Supply, and Retired U.S. Army Colonel, Rudy Burwell has been elected as the next Chair of the Board of Directors, and will begin his term on September 1, 2022. Burwell succeeds Tom Gallagher, who is stepping down as Chair following four years of dedicated and impactful service, and who will continue to serve as a member of the Board of Directors.
“Tom Gallagher’s love for the arts and unwavering dedication to community provided us with strong moorings to weather the early years of the pandemic while amplifying our mission and reach in new ways,” said Washington Performing Arts President and CEO Jenny Bilfield. “I am so grateful for his partnership and continued commitment to Washington Performing Arts and our team.”
“Rudy is a strategic thinker, communicator, and collaborator, and I know that he will be a successful leader of our deeply engaged and passionate Board of Directors,” said Washington Performing Arts President and CEO Jenny Bilfield. “He will be a great partner and ambassador as we intensify programs that speak to our wide community, engage varied audiences, and ensure that the arts are accessible to people where they work and live.”
