Venezuelan-born, Latin Grammy® Award–nominated composer, vocalist, and cuatro player Jonathan Acosta performs original works ranging from heartfelt ballads to high-energy dance numbers. Acosta and his band are sure to have you dancing the night away on April 13, 7pm!

This event is part of the Mars Arts D.C. Concert Series at Songbyrd – a four-part concert series presented by Washington Performing Arts and its signature community engagement initiative Mars Arts D.C. With monthly concerts spanning March - June of 2022, the Mars Arts D.C. Concert Series at Songbyrd is a product of Mars Arts D.C.’s curatorial prowess and the welcoming atmosphere of Songbyrd Music House, a distinct local venue ingrained in the D.C. music scene. The Series features a wide range of musical genres providing a monthly oasis for music-lovers of all types. Acts include folk band Justin Trawick and The Common Good, Venezuelin singer, cuatro player, and composer Jonathan Acosta, soulful brass band DuPont Brass, and Broadway vocalist Frenchie Davis alongside the multi-genre group The Experience Band & Show.

This event is free but requires advanced registration.

COVID Safety Notice: As Washington Performing Arts does not own or operate its own venue, Washington Performing Arts audiences will be subject to the current vaccination policy of each event’s venue on the date of the event. Songbyrd Music House’s COVID policy requires all attendees to provide proof of full vaccination (at least 14 days since last shot). Additionally, all must wear masks when not actively eating or drinking.

About the Artist

Jonathan Acosta

Jonathan Acosta is a Venezuelan singer and songwriter, performing and composing recognized songs. He also plays the Venezuelan Cuatro and the Violin; from 1989 until 2001 he received musical training at the Conservatory of Music Vicente ilio Sojo in Venezuela and participated for twelve years in the National System of Symphonic Orchestras of Venezuela as a violinist (1990 - 2002). His music is genuine, versatile, rich in rhythms and melody; his compositions have high motivational content which has made him worthy of recognized international awards. He has recorded two record productions, one of them with the Musical Bahareque group entitled Si asi llueve que no escampe. The second production is Pido Permiso which he interpreted and composed and it was previously nominated for the Latin Grammy Awards 2017. In 2018, he became the first singer-songwriter to perform a Symphonic Concert sung in Venezuela in homage to the singer-songwriter Simon Diaz. Throughout his career, he has participated in innumerable Symphonic and Popular concerts as a performer and entertainer.
