“Her instrument and talent were striking.... Her low notes were great, elemental things, seeming to roll through the auditorium, her high range all sharply milled gunmetal.”
—Washington Post

J’Nai Bridges is among the most captivating singers of her generation—“a rich-toned mezzo-soprano with a calmly commanding stage presence” (The New Yorker). A star of the Metropolitan Opera and Washington National Opera, she also became an instant WPA favorite thanks to her headline appearance in our March 2020 Virtual Gala. For her Home Delivery Plus performance, to be recorded at Sixth & I, she has crafted a very special program on the themes of uplift and community, featuring luminary 20th- and 21st-century composers (some her close collaborators), including Richard Danielpour, Florence Price, Shawn Okpebholo, Carlos Simon, Margaret Bonds, and more. The program will also feature classic works from Brahms and Berg, as well as poetry and incisive conversations on the topic of “Rising, Together.”

Program TBA

Featuring a Headline Artist performance plus:

Soundcheck: The Arts, Undistanced: Wynton Marsalis in conversation with J’Nai Bridges—part of a new WPA series.

Linger Longer: J’Nai Bridges works with soprano Alexandria Crichlow, a Mannes School of Music student and past guest artist with the likes of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and Philadelphia Orchestra, on Crichlow's interpretation of Puccini’s beloved aria, “O Mio Babbino Caro.” This masterclass is presented in partnership with the Coalition for African Americans in the Performing Arts (CAAPA).
