“Nosrati is a captivating Bachian; rhythmically infectious, supremely intelligent, alive to the expressive kernel without over-milking it…. Bach on the piano has a compelling new exponent.”
Classical-music.com (BBC Music magazine online)

Making her Washington Performing Arts debut, German pianist and 2021 Hayes Artist* Schaghajegh Nosrati comes to Home Delivery Plus from the stage of the Kennedy Center Terrace Theater, performing a cornerstone of her repertoire, The Art of Fugue by J.S. Bach. Following an attention-getting second prize award in 2014’s International Bach Competition in Leipzig, Nosrati made her CD debut in 2015 with The Art of Fugue, and her 2017 recording of Bach keyboard concertos took the German Record Critics’ Award. No less an authority than her ongoing mentor (and fellow Home Delivery Plus headliner) Sir András Schiff has praised the “astonishing clarity, purity, and maturity” of her Bach performances. Following the Headline Artist Performance, Nosrati and Schiff take part in an incisive Linger Longer conversation on The Art of Fugue, recorded just for Washington Performing Arts.

J.S. BACH - The Art of Fugue, BWV 1080

Featuring a Headline Artist performance plus:

Linger Longer: Schaghajegh Nosrati and Sir András Schiff discuss the history and intricacies of J.S. Bach’s Art of Fugue.

Curated by Anastasia Tsioulcas

A rising talent on the scene, Schaghajegh Nosrati is making her Washington Performing Arts debut with this recital of Bach’s The Art of Fugue—the work is also the subject of her 2015 recording debut, which her mentor, Sir András Schiff, called “highly impressive and profoundly moving.” Bach is central to Nosrati’s career so far: for another album, she performed his Keyboard Concertos, BWV 1052–1054. But she is also fascinated by the music of a far lesser-known figure, French composer Charles-Valentin Alkan (1813–1888), and has recorded an absorbing program of his works, including the Concerto for Solo Piano.
