Update: June 18, 2020:

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the world-premiere performance of Christopher Tin’s To Shiver the Sky, originally scheduled as an in-person concert at D.C. venue The Anthem, has now been transformed into a free digital world premiere, to stream on this page on Saturday, August 29.

We thank all those who registered in advance for the original in-person event.

No advance registration is required for the free webstream.

Two-time Grammy-winning composer Christopher Tin is a master of the concert stage, silver screen, and gaming world, whose works have been featured in the soundtrack to the blockbuster film Crazy Rich Asians and in the game Civilization IV, played by millions worldwide. In this webcast, he joins forces with the U.S. Air Force Band, ModernMedieval, soprano Danielle de Niese, and tenor Pene Pati for the digital world premiere of his new oratorio, To Shiver the Sky, inspired by the history of flight and humankind’s quest to conquer the heavens.

Told through the words of 11 of our greatest astronomers, inventors, visionaries, and pilots, the work charts our relentless need to explore the universe, defy our earthly bonds, reach for the “face of God,” and ultimately claim our place among the stars. The work was filmed in multiple locations both before and during lockdown, including Washington, D.C., London’s Abbey Road Studios, and Tin’s Los Angeles studio.

Co-presented with the United States Air Force Band

This performance is made possible through the generous support of Lyn and Barry Chasen, the Dallas Morse Coors Foundation for the Performing Arts, Encompass Supply/Rudy Burwell and Mona Mohib, and Daimler.
