Balourdet Quartet

Hear industry icons and artists-on-the-rise in our Recitalist Series at Sixth & I and Church of the Epiphany. Pianist Simone Dinnerstein presents the fifth-annual Ruth Bader Ginsburg Memorial Recital with Rameau’s rarely performed Gavotte et six doubles, and more (October 18). Pianist and pedagogue Minsoo Sohn performs J. S. Bach’s The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book I (November 14). Cellist Seth Parker Woods and pianist Conor Hanick unite with Fazil Say’s vivid Four Cities, George Walker’s 1956 Sonata for cello and piano, and Rachmaninov’s sweeping Cello Sonata, op. 19, one of the most passionate works in the duo repertoire (February 18). The Balourdet Quartet spans Monteverdi, Ben Johnston’s microtonal meditation on “Amazing Grace,” Bartók’s haunted Sixth Quartet and Mendelssohn’s passionately constructed Second at the center (February 27). Young Concert Artists and Washington Performing Arts present two exciting events to close the series: Estel Vivó Casanovas, saxophone, and Soojin Kang, piano, in a program spanning Baroque foundations to newly commissioned work (April 10); and a performance featuring Bela Kovacs’ Sholem-Alekhem, rov Feidman!, and Shostakovich’s Piano Trio No. 2 featuring violinist Paul Huang, pianist Anne-Marie McDermott, Jose Franch-Ballester on clarinet, and Clive Greensmith on cello (May 15).
